Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.
— Margaret Mead
Welcome to the stewards gallery, a collection of many individual stories that represent the collective effort to protect and preserve Austin’s iconic Barton Creek. These stories range from the 1950s with Austin’s earliest conservationists who worked to raise awareness about the fragility of Barton Creek, through the activism of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. Also included are the stories of many scientists who today work within the City of Austin as it has evolved to embrace environmental values as a core value.
