December 1974
The City begins construction of floodwater bypass in an effort to keep Barton Springs Pool clean and open even after heavy rains. The bypass would divert Barton Creek surface water around the pool and under the the sidewalk discharging below the pool into Barton Creek.
The bypass was an official acknowledgment that the creek water was degrading the Springs, as well as a clear signal that the City planned to approve much more development in the Watershed.
