Parks advocates urge City to buy land on Barton Creek for public parkway, but success is limited despite public support.
The 1965 Austin Parks Board described the proposed parkway as a 6-mile scenic drive between Tom Bradfield's Wallingwood development and Barton Creek on the north and west bank. The city argued it did not have the funds to purchase so much land, and could only afford a 50-foot strip of land on the flood plain line for a hike and bike trail.
Let us look at these things as we would 10, 40 or 50 years from now not as we would today. Select the best areas, acquire them. If this affects potential building lots, let the city pay.
