The Parks Department collaborates in a study with the National Park Service, legitimizing the purchase of land to expand the Barton Creek Greenbelt.

What the National Park Service study showed...is that if we were going to save Barton Springs we had to have that thousand feet on either side of the creek... If we lost it and it was covered up...we could not save the springs. There was no question about making a run at buying that land. We had to.
